Tahun Baru Jawa dengan Perayaan Hati Kudus 27 Juni 2025 dalam Hermeneutika Hans-Georg Gadamer

Abstract

This research is a unique calendar coincidence, namely the convergence of the Javanese New Year (1 Sura), a celebration rich in syncretic traditions, with the Feast of the Sacred Heart, an important moment in Catholic theology, on the same date (27 June 2025). This event presents an interpretative challenge that goes beyond mere historical or sociological facts. The research question is: How can Hans-Georg Gadamer's hermeneutical framework, with its key concepts such as horizon, historical effect (Wirkungsgeschichte), and fusion of horizons, be used to analyse and interpret this as a moment of inter-traditional dialogue rich in meaning? The research method used is a qualitative philosophical-hermeneutic approach called wahrheit und methode (truth and method). A single date through the lens of philosophical theory. The research findings reveal that, in the context of the Javanese New Year and the Feast of the Sacred Heart, the application of Gadamer's hermeneutics does not result in a combined celebration. Understanding each horizon: 1. The Javanese New Year horizon, which encompasses the spiritual meaning of tapa (asceticism), the tradition of tirakatan, and Javanese cosmology that views time as a cycle. 2. The Sacred Heart celebration horizon, which encompasses the theological meaning of God's infinite love, devotion, and the symbol of the wounded Heart of Jesus. Based on Gadamer's hermeneutics, the conclusion of the concept of ‘horizon’ in the context of the Javanese New Year and Sacred Heart celebrations on 27 June 2025 is that both have unique spiritual horizons, but can meet and engage in dialogue.
